Engine Builds
Standard and high power EJ builds, specified around your target rather than a parts list.
Full EJ builds from a planning conversation through machining, assembly and fit-up. SPR CNC close-decks EJ20 and EJ25 cases in-house, with the coolant passages cut to suit the head gasket type the build is running. Short blocks, nitrided crankshafts, oil pumps and complete gasket kits are supplied from stock.
Power target, fuel, how the car gets used and what the budget actually is. Every decision after this one follows from it, so it is worth getting right rather than getting past.
The engine comes out and comes apart. Nothing is ordered until the damage is understood, because what killed the last engine usually decides what the next one needs.
Cases are CNC close decked in-house on EJ205, EJ207, EJ255 and EJ257, with the coolant passages cut to suit the head gasket the build will run. Customers can supply their own case halves, or SPR can supply them subject to stock.
Short block together, oil pump matched to single or dual AVCS, genuine MLS head gaskets, and the gasket kit done properly rather than in pieces.
Oiling, cooling and fuel specified alongside the engine. An oil cooler is replaced as a matter of course after any bearing failure, because the old one holds fine bearing material that will find its way into the new engine.
CNC close decking is the one service SPR publishes a fixed price for: $1,100 for EJ20 and EJ25 case halves. Everything else is quoted against the actual build.
SPR works on Subaru EJ engines, including EJ20 and EJ25 builds. The workshop offers CNC close decking for EJ205, EJ207, EJ255 and EJ257 case halves. Confirm the engine and the intended use when you enquire.
A complete engine build is quoted for the specific engine, condition, target and supporting work. SPR lists EJ20 and EJ25 CNC close decking at $1,100; this is machining of the case halves, not the price of a complete engine build. Confirm the scope and current quote with the workshop.
Send the model, engine, current modifications, how you use the car, power target, fuel and budget. Include any known damage or symptoms so SPR can discuss assessment and the order of work.
